What lead to the creation of Helen Doron English?

The inspiration came about while Helen Doron was watching her four-year-old daughter, Ella, learn ‎violin through the Suzuki method. Dr Suzuki teaches music like a language — children learn through ‎repeated hearing and are motivated through positive reinforcement. She asked herself, “What if ‎children could learn English the same way they learn the violin?” Asking this question ultimately lead ‎to the formation of her enterprise, Helen Doron English, which started out as a home-based business ‎and has grown into an internationally recognized franchise. ‎ Helen Doron wanted children to learn English naturally, without even realizing they were learning ‎another language. As a linguistic scientist with a deep understanding of language, she understood ‎that she had a unique opportunity to change the way we learn English, and that’s what she set out to ‎do. ‎

What are the essential principles of Helen Doron English courses?

The Helen Doron English methodology has four core principles: ‎

individualized attention through small group learning
motivating children to learn while having fun
giving children confidence through positive reinforcement
creating effortless learning through repeated background hearing

How can children learn English without realizing they are learning?

Our innovative methodology allows children to speak and understand English before they learn to read and write –in the same way they learn their mother tongue. We teach English in a nurturing environment that makes learning joyful and exciting. Our stimulating lessons with small groups of four to eight children ensure each child gets personal attention and positive feedback from the teacher. In addition, audio tracks are played at home daily while the child is playing, eating, or going to bed that allows the child’s developing brain to build the neural pathways for the structure and sounds of English. This daily background home hearing allows for fast, effortless, and natural immersion in English.

What makes Helen Doron English programmes unique?

Every programme offers unique learning materials developed by a team of pedagogic and childhood educational experts. These materials feature lively characters with distinct personalities who go on adventures, deal with challenges, and experience the world around them. We teach more than just English: we teach children important values, life lessons, and how to become better world citizens. Our specially trained teachers encourage spontaneous speaking and give our students lots of positive reinforcement, which encourages and motivates them as they learn. We teach small groups of 4-8 students which allows for individualized attention and plenty of practice speaking English.

What is a typical lesson like?

Our fun-filled lessons held at our learning centres are made up of a variety of activities including songs, games, crafts, dancing and movement, drama and more that involve the different senses. Because children learn differently, we take into account different learning styles — Visual, Auditory, and Kinaesthetic — when planning our action-packed lessons. Children naturally love to learn, so we have created a learning environment that helps them easily absorb new concepts. They learn to speak and understand English before learning to read and write. Children love to learn, and they love to play and our courses combine these two elements, giving them the best of both worlds.
