A Window on the World
Look into the Book
Our idea was to present our favourite books in a shop window to show our community the magic of books. First, we prepared posters about us and our favourite books in our English class. The local bookshop, which is located between two schools attended by more than 1000 students, generously provided a large part of their shop window for our display. We spent an hour there decorating the window with our books, suitable props illustrating them, and our posters. We are convinced that when other children of our community see our display they will also discover the magic of reading.
Food for the Brain
The Super Readers
Our Teen Talent group decided to organize a reading picnic for the local scouts. We picked books for ages 7 to 10 and prepared a quiz. Then we put on our super hero costumes and surprised the junior scouts at their next meeting. After unveiling the content of our picnic basket - food for the brain! - we began reading to the younger children, while the advanced readers could pick books according to their taste. The children enjoyed the books and mastered the quiz. Finally, they took home their self-made bookmarks to remind them that reading is a superpower.
Palermo is Zen
"Zen is Palermo, Palermo is Zen" are the words our city Mayor Leoluca Orlando says to encourage social interaction between uptown and this needy neighborhood. We held storytelling hours: one readathon at the Learning Centre and one at the kids' bookshop, Dudi, where kids read an English version of Pinocchio. Younger kids were guided through the story by props. We held an amazing treasure hunt at Giufa Library. Dozens of books were donated to the library. We also created a fairy tale of Arabian characters, illustrated and arranged by kids from Zen, available at https://goo.gl/pqexqt. Our little readers greatly enjoyed every reading experience.
#1 Kids Bike Library
The first kids’ bike library “B.Book” will allow almost half a million children in Kyiv to read books outdoor. Initially, Helen Doron students collected 300 books. We announced our reading events in social media public groups, local news & events calendar sites and local radio. Finally, in three parks we read aloud in English, played games based on the plot of books and made bookmarks with nearly 100 children. We continue to collect books in the HDE LCs and plan to spread the magic of reading in all Kyiv parks.
Helen Doron Vinkovci
Our main goal was to motivate children to read and reading together is an amazing way to do so. Due to the fact that our little heroes liked the character of Little Red Riding hood, we decided to read them that exact story, but this time in English. Our young heroes loved every minute of the story, but were the happiest when the hunter appeared. Dear parents, read with your children. Make it a pleasure, not a commitment and continue to encourage the imagination and creativity of our little heroes. :)
Night in the Library
The main goal of our campaign in Ivano-Frankivsk is to show everyone that reading can be enjoyable! We organised a Reading Club in our Centre for our younger students. Met the Head of the Library to deliver the collected books and hold our unique event – a sleepover party «Night in the library»! We made a big book with feedback about our favourite books. Winning in this competition will give us the opportunity to be part of the creation of «The Library of Dreams» in Our Fairy Tower!
NEW LIBRARY-NEW FRIENDSHIPS
We participated in an event called ‘’Spring Holiday’’ during which we collected children\'s books. Our plan is to donate these books to The Center for Hearing and Speech. We have collected more than 400 books and children really enjoyed the event. There will be a similar event in May called Family Fest. After the fest, we will visit the Center and create a library in one of their rooms as well as spend a day reading and talking about stories with children from the Center. ON JUne 26th we visited the center and donated all the books we collected.
Old Town Crew
Bosnia and Herzegovina
We conducted a project in three stages. 1st - Conducting classes where children read and retold their favorite stories and fairy tales. 2nd - Creating a reading corner in our LC, where children can read while waiting for classes to start and collecting 108 books to donate to the library. 3rd - Visiting a nearby library and talking about the importance of books. Children formed groups and wrote stories. The three best stories were published and displayed in our LC as well as in the library of Sarajevo. When we set our mind to it --we can do it!
New Language - New World
Girls in Stories
The team of teenage girls between 12 and 15 wrote and illustrated a book of our stories where they unveil their inner worlds. This book was published as an eBook and print book. We organized a launch book ceremony to honour their hard work. In the second part of of our project, we organized a reading session for students in our LC and also for the students of our partner elementary school to show that reading in English can be fun and joyful.
Look, here's a comic book!
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Our team created an educational comic book where children are superheroes who introduce us to all Sarajevo's cultural sights. We wanted the children to develop a love for reading through a trip to the magical world of imagination, where everything is possible. Indulging their creative feelings, children created every page of our comic book with their own hands. We exchanged the copy of our comic book for another book to collect donation books. Donated books were given to our local library. We had a day with different workshops about reading and then we took the books to the library.

HD Library and Storytelling
HD Trnje & Medvescak
Our young heroes project had two stages. In the first stage, our students donated books to our libraries, so all our students can read and enjoy the books they have donated. Students donated over 440 books to our libraries. Every week more than 120 students borrow and read those books. In the second stage, students made storytelling props (storytelling gloves and bags, which are used to enhance and guide children's storytelling). They donated the props to our local children's library, which can use them in their workshops to encourage young readers to read and use their imagination.
