Young Heroes from Split, Croatia decided to make their favorite playground even more beautiful. The main event was held on April 8th, and over 70 young heroes participated. We cleaned up the playground in park Zvoncac and refurbished the benches with a fresh coat of paint. We also made beautiful bird feeders with recycled materials. We had an amazing time and learned that sometimes even the small changes can make a big difference.

We are a group of Helen Doron teachers, students and parents that have come together in the hope of helping a kindergarten in our neighbourhood that is in desperate need for some new toys and materials that would help in developing fine motor skills and sensory skills. The kindergarten in question has several children with special needs that would greatly benefit from such toys. Read More..
The first step in our project was to create some materials that could be used in teaching kindergarten children how to read, count and in helping them develop fine motor skills. We held a workshop where our little heroes created cool materials and games for their peers. The next step is for us to collect toys and materials during our Young Heroes week - our students and their parents can bring in toys that would be valuable in developing young minds at our local kindergarten.
We got great ideas from our students and parents during our first Young Heroes meeting, and decided to choose this project because both parents and teachers understand how hard it is for public kindergartens to get all the necessary equipment, especially when it comes to working with children with special needs. Also, the kindergarten we have chosen is in our neighbourhood and it just felt right that we should help them by creating some new toys and materials that would help the new generation of children to grow and develop.
All our schools had wonderful meetings with children and parents - we decided on a date and a game plan! Let`s do it!
April 8th our children together with their friends, families and teachers spent the day cleaning their favourite parks, painting benches and building bird houses! We are proud of our young heroes!
We decided to contribute by planting trees in nature oasis where people spend a lot of free time in order to relax. Also, we hung motivational messages on trees written on organic materials to remind people how to treat nature or to just put a smile on their faces. In addition, we raised awareness of the importance of recycling by collecting plastic for one charity organisation. We helped another charity organisation by selling lemonade and collecting money for their users.
On 22nd of April on Ada Ciganlija we planted five trees. Also we raised money for the humanitarian foundation “Budi human” by making lemonade and selling it to the parents. In addition, we collected plastic for another humanitarian organization which donates wheelchairs to the handicapped.
We want to see the seniors having fun and being happy!
We met one afternoon at the senior home by our English school and spent some time with the elderly. We started off with a Balloon Fight to break the ice and it was hysterical! We all laughed so hard our stomachs hurt! Then we had a Ring Toss competition. (The kids beat the seniors by 100 points!) Then we ended the afternoon with a Mind Game in which we all worked together to think of names from A to Z. It was a great afternoon and we all had a blast!
Our students dream that they all can also be heroes by helping the less fortunate students. We plan to donate our used toys and books.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-sXAKCIqaI We sold our toys both on-line and at our learning centre. We had raised 4,320 Baht which could help 7 kids to continue their study for 1 month.
We decided to make bird feeders and bird houses in a park near our Helen Doron School. Also we know the importance of recycling so we decided to help a humanitarian organization by collecting bottle caps. Furthermore, we made some lemonade and we sold it to the parents and the people who were in the park. All the money that we collected will be forwarded to the other humanitarian organization “Budi human”.
