Helen Doron has been training suitable candidates to teach with her method and materials since 1987. Today teacher training is carried out by highly-qualified HD Teacher Trainers.
Teacher Training Courses, lasting five or six days, are offered in various locations throughout the world.
The courses:
- Teach you the ideology of Helen Doron Early English. We discuss the mother-tongue methodology, the theories and background of the method.
- Enable you to gain practical experience with the Helen Doron learning sets. This comprises the bulk of the training. Each teacher trainee demonstrates her ability and ideas throughout the course while practicing teaching methods using the special materials.
- Where applicable, you will learn how to set up your own business. You receive advice about: tax definitions, marketing strategies, and all the administrative details of organizing lessons.
You leave the course equipped to begin teaching - the learning sets, detailed lesson plans, teaching materials, including flash cards and colour cards, as well as detailed Teacher Guide. You or your Learning Centre also receive personalized posters and brochures. With your Helen Doron Early English certificate in hand, you're ready to go out and teach.
Teaching with the Method is always interesting and well paid. The demand for Teachers of Helen Doron Early English tends to be high wherever you may be. This is a lifetime career! You can work full-time or part-time, in your own home, in community centres or schools anywhere in the world.
General course details:
The complete course lasts for five or six days, from 9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. (or the equivalent) daily. Weekend or evening courses may also be offered.
Teacher Training Courses are offered as either five or six day courses, depending on the country of the course. The courses are conducted by our highly-trained Teacher Trainers, hand picked by us for their competence and enthusiasm in this field together with years of HDEE teaching experience.
The course is in two stages:
- Stage A - 2 days
- Stage B - 3 or 4 days (depending if it is a 5 or 6 day TTC)
Stage A: The first two days give you a chance to see if this is really what you want to do, and give us a chance to see that you are indeed suited to this work.
Stage B: Those who are considered suitable to become Teachers of Helen Doron Early English will be able to continue to Stage B. Only those who successfully meet our standard in practical demonstrations, the written work and general attitude at the end of Stage B will qualify as Teachers of HDEE.
Teachers of Helen Doron Early English are part of an international team. The opportunities for work are wide and varied. The income is high.
To ensure much personal attention and practical experience, all Teacher Training Courses are limited to a maximum of 12 participants.
During the course you receive all the necessary learning sets in which you are trained to teach as well as a wealth of other materials and information, including:
- National Press Files
- Guidelines for getting started
- Basic information on running your own business
- Personalized posters and brochures
- Teacher Guides, flashcards and other teaching aids
- And, of course, a new career!
Requirements:
Applicants are required to have an excellent grasp of English and speak fluently. They need to enjoy working with children. Experience working with children is helpful. Applicants with a teaching certificate, background in education, language certificate or who are native English speakers will be preferred.
Graduation:
Teacher Training Courses are very intensive; in addition to the learning during the course, you will need to invest an hour or more every evening preparing the next day's work. You will also be required to write a short essay of two or three pages. Good practical demonstrations and an adequate essay are the essential requirement for graduating.
Remuneration:
This depends on many factors - how much you work, where you work, the price you charge, and more. The opportunities are varied and rewarding. Contact your national or regional office for information specific to your area. If you are the first Teacher in your country and there is no Learning Centre or Master Franchisor for your country, contact the Head Office to discuss pricing policies.
Agreement:
Each Teacher is required to sign an agreement between the Teacher and the Franchisee for Helen Doron Early English.
Your local Helen Doron Franchisee (area representative) supplies you with all your teaching and advertising material plus good advice. If you come from an Area that does not have a local Helen Doron Franchisee, Head Office will be in direct contact with you and sign the agreement with you.
Royalty system:
As a Helen Doron Teacher, you receive a range of services and support, which allow you to build your teaching business with the backup and knowledge of a rooted and experienced organization. Foe these services you pay a percentage of the turnover of your lessons. Following is an outline of the support you receive as a Helen Doron Teacher.
Support services
Pedagogic:
- Seminars - Day seminars are offered regularly in which new material is learnt or old material is explored anew.
- Annual conference - National conferences introduce new materiala nd knowledge to enhance and develop your teaching. These gatherings update Teachers both pedagogically and administratively.
- Email forum - This worldwide forum of HD Teachers allows Teachers to pose questions or offer answers and feedback. It is a fast, efficient and extremely effective method of networking and receiving answers to your questions. Helen Doron herself is an active participant of the forum and thus, answers specific questions.
- The Teacher Web Portal – This allows you to download documents and Guides you may need for lessons.
- The Teacher Prop Site: Here you can view and download games and props that other teachers have created for certain lessons. You can contribute to this too.
Organizational and Financial
- Area Meetings - The Helen Doron Franchisee organizes regular meetings of area Teachers to deal with all issues and suggest new and better ways of getting organized and finding students. This is also a chance to network with other Teachers and share experience and ideas.
- Newsletters - Regular newsletters update you on all aspects of the organization, keep you informed pedagogically, and help you enhance your teaching career.
- Referrals - Your local franchisee refers students to you whenever and wherever he can.
- The Teacher Information Management System – This allows you to register and organize your students, organize your royalties, have a calendar with HD events and your students' birthdays, make orders for materials and see your past orders, register for seminars, be updated with news from your franchisee and from HD Headquarters.
Promotional
- Centralized Posters and Brochures - Upon completion of the Teacher Training Course, you or your Learning Centre receive promotional posters and brochures with your or the Learning Centre's name and telephone number printed on them. You can purchase these materials at cost price whenever needed
- Website - Our website contains information that allows parents to understand the content and value of our international teaching system and organization.
