We Are Learning About Learning

Most Helen Doron Early English Parents and Teachers are quite actively involved in bettering children’s lives through learning. What parent hasn’t asked “what’s the most important skill that I can teach my children as they grow up?” At Helen Doron we take the question of education very seriously. We want our children to explore, express themselves, be curious, joyful and interested in the world around them; in short to be adept at learning about learning.

An eternal quest for knowledge and experience we come to realize that the most important skill- set today is to learn about learning i.e. learn how we acquire knowledge learn all kinds of heuristics and techniques for acquiring knowledge. For anyone with a background in Psychology learning about some of these heuristics is a standard part of the curriculum. Yet even with the intellectual knowledge tucked away in our brains, it still sometimes takes some life experience to realize just how important they really are.

It doesn’t matter if you’re 6 or 60, once you have learned techniques for learning; your capacity for learning almost anything is enormous. It doesn't really matter what the subject is. Coupled with curiosity and the passion to learn - you have all the necessary tools you need for a rich life of continuous wonder and fulfillment.

English for children taught using our special methodology also reinforces this ‘learning about learning’ philosophy as well. Children are very curious by nature so ‘learning about learning’ is something they absorb like a sponges. Obviously, for children (and indeed for all of us) learning should to be conducted in a fun and stimulating manner - and that’s already a big part of what Helen Doron early English is all about!
