Dear Parents,

We are glad you decided to enroll your children in the Helen Doron method. This letter is intended to present you with the principles of the method and your role. Please, keep it. Additional information you will find in the parents' guidelines booklet in the learning set. The Helen Doron method teaches English to children from the age of 2.5 years old, in such courses. The method is based on a combination of hearing audio cassettes at home and additional enrichment and deepening activities in class and at home.

The method is successful for 16 years now and can be found in Germany, Austria, Israel, Poland, Turkey, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Italy and there are over a 1000 teachers who have taught hundreds of thousands so far. The teachers are in constant contact with the R&D team and the curriculum is being updated constantly, according to and as a response to the teachers' feedback, in addition to the latest development in the worldwide language acquiring related pedagogic academic research.

The learning set and the teaching program in classes complements one another and ensure a combination of several reception and learning channels.

The learning according the Helen Doron method combines the following elements:
  • Acquisition of the language by repetitive hearing.
  • Enrichment given by teachers.
  • Special learning material that complements the hearing
  • Language implementation.

Playing the cassettes - the parents role

Acquisition of a language is achieved naturally when the baby learns its mother tongue. playing the audio cassettes twice a day, in the background, creates a familiarity with the language's sounds and its sentence structure. Children begin to repeat the songs and sentences, naturally unnoticed, just as they repeat TV commercials. When the child comes to the English lesson, he already knows well the words, the sentences and the songs and that is why he learns the uses and meanings so fast. That is how parents save time and expenses.

Young children, up to the age 6-7, will acquire, on the short run, the accent and pronunciation of the language and on the long run the proper usage of grammar and structure, as native speakers.

The parents' role is simple: to press the button. There is no need to have the children seated in order to listen. No need to even tell them the cassette is being played! Good times to play the cassette: When the child gets dressed or eats, during quiet playtime (Lego, dolls, etc.), before sleep, during travelling and during other non studying activities (The cassette is not played when the child is studying, doing homework or watching TV).

Playing the cassettes at kindergarten, school or lessons, is insufficient and delivers partial results. The role of the parents is easy and important: They should make sure the cassettes are played twice a day.
